SUMMARY:National Drug Take Back Day
DESCRIPTION:National Drug Take Back Day — Brainerd Lakes Area\n\nWhat: National Drug Take Back Day is a community-wide initiative offering residents a safe\, free\, and anonymous way to dispose of unused\, unwanted\, or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications. No questions asked\, no cost — just a simple drop-off.\n\nWhen: Saturday\, October 24th\, from 10:00am – 2:00pm.\n\nWhere: This year marks the first time our county has offered four participating locations\, making it easier than ever for residents across the area to take part:\n- Super One – Pequot Lakes\n- Super One – Crosby\n- Super One – Brainerd\n- Walmart – Baxter\n\nWho: This event is a partnership between the BLADE Coalition (Brainerd Lakes Area Drug Education) and local law enforcement\, including the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department and the Pequot Lakes\, Crosby\, Baxter\, and Brainerd Police Departments. By combining community education with law enforcement's trusted presence\, we're able to reach families in a way that feels approachable\, safe\, and judgment-free.\n\nWhy: The need for safe medication disposal has never been greater. Research shows the majority of people who misuse prescription medications get them not from dealers\, but from the medicine cabinets of family and friends — meaning one of the simplest\, most effective things a household can do to protect their kids and community is remove unused medications from the home. Locally\, Crow Wing County has recorded opioid-involved overdose deaths in 9 of the last 10 years\, and while Minnesota saw real progress with a 26% drop in overdose deaths from 2023 to 2024\, that progress depends on communities continuing to take action.\n\nBy partnering together\, BLADE and local law enforcement aim to reduce the risk of accidental poisoning\, prevent prescription misuse before it starts\, and keep unused medications out of homes\, out of the wrong hands\, and out of our water supply — one pill\, and one household\, at a time.
