Brainerd Parks & Rec Dept: Summer/Temporary Positions
The City of Brainerd's Parks and Recreation Department works year-round to offer various programs and activities as well as keeping the City's parks in great shape for the residents of Brainerd and the surrounding communities.
Applications are being accepted for our general maintenance positions, parks weekend custodial worker position, summer intern, adult softball umpires, and concessions workers. Following is a brief description of the positions:
Parks General Maintenance
Assists in maintaining the city's park properties. Preference will be given to candidates who can begin work mid-to late April, can work weekends when needed, using light equipment, driving pickup trucks and trailers, using power tools, trade skills, and athletic/ball field maintenance. Minimum requirements are: must be 16 years of age or older; possess a valid driver's license; good driving record; ability to work independently with limited supervision; able to lift 40 lbs. frequently; and ability to work outdoors for a full 40-hour work week.
Parks Weekend Custodial Worker
Responsible for general custodial duties for various park facilities throughout the City of Brainerd. Duties include, but are not limited to, cleaning restrooms, building & shelter facilities daily on weekends to maintain a sanitary and healthy environment for users; restock cleaning/bathroom supplies at each facility; and trash and litter pickup at each facility. Minimum requirements are: must be 18 years of age or older; possess a valid driver's license; good driving record; ability to work independently with limited supervision; able to lift 50 lbs. frequently; and ability to work daily on weekends starting mid-May through mid-September.
Parks and Recreation Summer Intern
Must be available as assigned/needed 40 hours each week including evenings. Assignments may include: concessions, park maintenance and beautification projects, adult program supervision, special event coordination/facilitation/supervision, and weekend tournament maintenance.
Umpires - Adult Softball
Must be or get USA Softball certified (The City of Brainerd pays the umpire sanctioning fee). Usually works one to four evenings per week - Monday through Thursday. Umpires are also used for a handful of weekend adult softball tournaments.
Prepare food according to MN Health Department guidelines and sell food out of a concession stand. Must be willing to be trained on safe food handling procedures. Must have the ability to handle cash transactions accurately. Must be available in the evenings 5:00 - 10:00 p.m. or 5:00 - 8:30 p.m., also availability for the following weekends: June 11-13, June 18-20, June 25-27, and July 16-18.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT*:
Pay rates vary based on the position being filled and the applicant's experience. All positions are considered non-benefit earning positions since they are temporary in nature.
All applicants selected will be required to successfully complete a criminal background check prior to employment.
